The First Day of Fall & My Five Favorites

posted in: Homemaking, Motherhood | 0

Hubby said my next post should sound a little more cheery. I told him I have a realm of ideas. He knows I typically enjoy writing about the more gritty stuff that I face with all my little people and I never want to fake the funk like life is all roses. I have a few posts in the draft section — one about our homeschool schedule, one about marriage {this is a fun one} and another about the state of our world, but the timing for any of those just doesn’t feel right. For today, the first day of fall, hubby is right — stick to being cheery!

It’s Friday which means the end of another week. I am finishing up the 17th week in this pregnancy which feels amazing and the kiddos are all alive and well — 6.5, 4.5, 3, 2, 1 and 10 months. I’m just a little busy ya know, but I have been filling my time with the BEST things and seeing the fruit of it!

More importantly, and more exciting, fall is here. Ring the bells — make way for FALL!! We all love fall. FB is full of fall joy and fall jokes. I have spent almost two weeks playing with my fall decor and still haven’t finalized any of it because I know when the pumpkins arrive — it’s game time and I will move everything again.

I wanted to share my FIVE Favorite Things About FALL. I almost wrote each one with F, but I resisted and used an S instead. 😉

  1. The sights and sounds… Each season has unique sights and sounds, but fall brings changing colors and a rustle in the wind that is quite magical. Crunchy leaves — don’t get me started.
  2. The smells… pumpkin, apple, cinnamon, nutmeg, oak, cedar and more. You could hire me to sniff candles all day. Or burn candles all day, I’d be really good at that job too.
  3. The styles… people like to step out in fall. Here come the boots, the scarves, the sweaters and pretty much everything fashionable. In the summer, I just survive in stuff that isn’t suffocating me, but in the fall — I appreciate a cute outfit for everyone including myself! It is still warm here in Texas, but I’m changing my colors and found some ankle booties in the sale rack so I call those wins. #3 requires me to stay in my budget and stay off Pinterest…eeks.
  4. The scenes… apple picking, fall fests, football games, hay rides, pumpkin patches — it’s like there isn’t enough time to do all the awesome things that fall offers. And there isn’t enough storage space on my phone for all the pictures. Fall forces me to pull out my nice camera and get to snapping!
  5. The simple life… As much as one might feel pressured to do everything I just mentioned, fall offers a slower and simpler way of life. Time out in the country, making apple butter with the kids, baking with the babies, reading a good book by a candle. Fall beckons us to be still and truly count our blessings. It would be wise of us to take heed and do so.

One of the best parts of life is watching the seasons change. I always write about it and every year I treasure this time more and more. Watching the seasons each year, just like the sunrise or sunset each day, is a beautiful reminder of how God is perfectly faithful. I am learning time and time again how much peace there is in resting in His faithfulness. Genesis 8:22 “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.”

Psalm 36: 5-9

Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens,

your faithfulness to the skies.

Your righteousness is like the highest mountains,

your justice like the great deep.

You, Lord, preserve both people and animals.

How priceless is your unfailing love, O God!

People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.

They feast on the abundance of your house;

you give them drink from your river of delights.

For with you is the fountain of life;

in your light we see light.

Happy first day of fall friends!!

With All My Love,

Johnna
